Transform your passion for natural hair into a rewarding career with The Institute of Beauty’s Natural Hair Stylist program. As Tennessee’s first freestanding Natural Hair Care School, we combine classroom instruction with hands-on salon experience in a comprehensive 15-week program under the state’s Apprenticeship Model. In just 300 hours, you’ll learn cutting-edge natural hair techniques—preparing you for success in both natural hair salons and full-service salons. Join us for our Day program and take the first step toward a fulfilling future in the natural hair industry.

Curriculum Highlights

  • 300 Hours of Comprehensive Training for Licensure
    Gain the essential hands-on practice and theoretical grounding needed to meet Tennessee state requirements. Prepare confidently for your state licensure exam with in-depth study materials and practice sessions.
  • Natural Hair Care Fundamentals
    Delve into the basics of natural hair science, covering hair structure and maintenance. Learn braiding and extension techniques, plus an introduction to product selection for various hair textures.
  • Advanced Styling Techniques
    Master twisting, wrapping, weaving, locking, and thermal styling with modern tools. Develop speed, precision, and artistry, ensuring you’re ready for a range of salon services.
  • Scalp Health & Hair Retention
    Understand how to perform scalp treatments designed to retain hair and minimize hair loss. Gain expertise in client consultations to address individual needs and concerns.
  • Guided Salon Experience
    Work directly with experienced instructors in a supervised salon setting. Practice your new skills on real clients, receive feedback, and build the confidence you need to excel in today’s beauty industry.

Tuition & Fees: $3,975 (plus out-of-pocket expenses; financial aid not offered) The Institute of Beauty is an out-of-pocket program, we do not offer/accept financial aid.

    PHASE I: THEORY OF NATURAL HAIR STYLING

    During this phase, students are introduced to theory and modern practical hairstyling to ensure that students have a strong training.  ​Our curriculum includes:

    PHASE 2: PRACTICE OF NATURAL HAIR STYLING

    Through demonstration and practical work on mannequins, PHASE 2 covers State Board essentials and classic IOBTN techniques. Students demonstrate their knowledge of practical application and theory before transitioning into the salon environment. 

    PHASE 3: APPLICATION OF NATURAL HAIR STYLING

    Students continue to evolve their skills in hair care and styling. They take their skills into a salon environment supervised by a veteran licensed stylist to practice learned techniques on live models/clients.
