Tamika Turner is a master barber, licensed stylist, mentor, speaker, entrepreneur, wife, and proud mom. With over 24 years of industry experience, she made history by founding Tennessee’s first freestanding Natural Hair School.
Her work has led to powerful partnerships with Memphis-Shelby County Schools CCTE, the Shelby County Office of Reentry, and the Shelby County Department of Corrections. Today, Tamika continues her leadership as a newly appointed representative on the Tennessee Barbering and Cosmetology Board, where she is shaping the future of the industry at the policy level.
Since opening our doors in June 2016, Tamika has been on a mission to fill the gaps in natural hair education. Her leadership has impacted not only students, but entire communities. She founded Edge Education, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that empowers girls and women through healthy hair care knowledge—teaching them how to avoid traction alopecia, chemical damage, and poor hygiene.
Through workshops, outreach programs, and school partnerships, Edge Education teaches essential lessons in:
Traction alopecia prevention
Chemical-free hair care
Scalp hygiene and wellness
Cultural pride through hair education
